Jackets' Crittenton to test NBA waters
ATLANTA - Following the lead of classmate Thaddeus Young, Georgia Tech freshman point guard Javaris Crittenton entered his name into the NBA draft on Wednesday but does not plan to hire an agent.
Javaris Crittenton, like Young, has until June 18 to withdraw from the draft and retain his college eligibility.
``Javaris wants to keep his eligibility intact by not having an agent, but he wants to further explore his status in the upcoming draft by being able to speak directly with NBA personnel,'' said Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt.
Javaris Crittenton, an Atlanta native, matched Young for the team scoring lead with 14.4 points per game. The 6-foot-5 Javaris Crittenton ranked second in the Atlantic Coast Conference with 5.7 assists per game.
``I enjoy Georgia Tech, the environment here and all the fans, and I appreciate all the support I've gotten through high school and my freshman year, both from the Tech community and the people in Atlanta,'' Javaris Crittenton said.
``But I feel I need to enter my name right now in order to get the best possible information from people in the NBA.''
Javaris Crittenton helped lead Georgia Tech to a 20-12 record. The Yellow Jackets lost to UNLV in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Young, a forward, announced his plans to enter the draft on Tuesday.
Most mock drafts have Young being drafted as high as 10th.
NBAdraft.net has Young No. 17 and Javaris Crittenton at No. 25. RealGM.com has Young as the No. 10 pick but does not list Javaris Crittenton among its top 30 selections.
